I am a Free Will Baptist in Ohio and am originally from Michigan. Ive been at my church for a year and a half now and have ran into a doctrinal problem in my church with our new pastor. I was teaching in my sunday school class about such things as eternal security and the Arminian responses to such teachings. A young man in class that had become a christian as a teen and then went off to live in sin for several years made the statement that he was glad he did'nt die in the sin because he would have gone to hell. I made the statement that if he was truly saved he would not have gone to hell but would have suffered loss of rewards if he had died while in sin. This set off a controversy. It seems that the Free Will Baptist Church I attend has been taught for as long as anyone can remember that dying while in sin will send a christian to hell. I have been very disturbed by this teaching, coming from Michigan I have heard this belief is in the church but never was faced with personally. When I tried to nail my pastor down on what he believes all I could get from him is that there is a gray area somewhere between living in sin and committing apostasy where the christian can go to hell prior to actually committing apostasy. While no actual scripture was given to me for this view, it seems to be based in human reasoning. The Wayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13872117683911201384noreply@blogger.com
